The podcast I attended focused on a Hubspot ebook that dispels six social media myths. The biggest takeaways from me are the following:
Here’s a Storify that has even more cool tidbits from the event. It sounds like the 2nd podcast was just as interesting as the first one!

Your host, James Karg
welcomes SMCYVR to The Bunker Project
No food but tons of fun!!! Oh and did we mention the cheap beer???

Come get your social media on with the Bunker Project
January 18th 2012, 7:00 pm
The Den on barclay 1348 Robson st.
The Bunker project goes live at: 7:15 pm
Price of cheap beer: $4.50 for the beer on special others are still really cheap
How the show works: The bunker project does 2 shows in one night. The hosts have some topics to talk about but like to have you as a guest. Bring your opinions and thoughts to share on a bunch of topics. Also bring your drinking muscle because its a casual chat over some delicious black beer. The back part of the bar is used as a recording studio. The first show usually starts recording 7:15 – 7:30 and then a break and then the second show is recorded.

NEW SITE- SEPT. 2011

The team at Social Media Club Vancouver is well known for their love of social media. We also have a passion for social change. This weekend the two areas are intersecting when a special visitor and his friend arrive in town.
Victor Eekhof is an interactive media specialist who has been working as a freelance project manager for ING Group. More importantly for our social media crowd, Victor is a cofounder of our sister organization, Social Media Club Amsterdam. Following the passing of a close friend, Victor decided life is too short and decided to travel a lot more. Here’s some more information on Victor:
Josh Cahill, is perhaps the most experienced couch surfer in the world. He has visited 51 countries, traveling much of the time without any money and staying on various different couches in cities as varied as Tehran, Berlin and beyond. Josh is also an accomplished world traveller. indeed it was on a trip to South East Asia that he met Victor.
Last month, Victor and Josh kicked off a twelve month charity road trip called Pole 2 Pole 4 Charity. The pair will be traveling from northern Alaska to Antarctica.
Their mission is to show people easy and cool it is to be green. They believe that if every person makes even the smallest environment-saving change in their day-to-day activities, the cumulative preservation effect on nature will be huge.
In the first part of their trip Victor and Josh will be documenting cool green initiatives all around the USA, Canada and Alaska. The pair plan on visiting 20 US and Canadian cities over three months. Along the way, they’ll CouchSurf and document environmental sustainable projects, programs and otherwise exciting green goings-on.
Throughout their trip, Josh and Victor hope to raise $20,000 for the green search engine Ecosia. Ecosia is a social business dedicated to environmental sustainability via the donation of revenue to the world’s most effective rainforest protection programs. 80% of their revenue supports WWF’s work in the Amazon. Find out more on Ecosia’s website.
Victor and Josh will be raising money by selling advertising space on their van ($10 for individuals and $50 for businesses). They are also raising funds by offering to deliver a message to the South Pole for you. For $10 dollars, Victor or Josh will write your message on recycled paper, put them in recycled bottles and deliver them to one of the research centers at the South Pole. Then they will photograph every message with a nice arctic background and upload them to the Pole2Pole Facebook page.
If you have questions, you can email them to info@pole2pole4charity.com.
It seems that simply driving across the content in a green powered van wasn’t enough for Josh and Victor. So they decided to take a break from their van and WALK for a bit. Currently they are walking 222 kilometers from Seattle to Vancouver to highlight their odyssey and bring renewed attention to their goals. They are scheduled to arrive in Vancouver on Sunday, June 12.
